Camping de Nevers is a medium-sized campsite on the banks of the Loire. Opposite the campsite is the city of Nevers, which is only one and a half kilometres away. Here you can rent caravans or fully equipped tents. From the campsite you can walk directly into the Loire where you can swim or fish. In July and August there is an animation team and a children's club. Furthermore, the Loire region is famous for bicycle routes around the many castles. So take your bikes with you, because the route along the Canal Latéral à la Loire starts right next to the campsite. Not to forget and also important: there is free Wifi with range all over the campsite.

The site is laid out on two terraces, the lower one with no views other than a high hedge. The upper terrace has attractive views and nearby electric plug ins, but was filled when we arrived. The lower terrace was not divided up by hedges and campers were parked quite closely together with little privacy. We were given a long electric lead to connect to electric source on the upper level, which took some searching out as free sockets were hard to come by. The other problem was the 300 yard hike to the one toilet block at the entrance - not great if you have no loo in your small camper, and it’s the middle of the night. The toilets and showers were well laid out and immaculate. However, I had to wait 15 minutes and several pleadings in my best French before the cleaning lady would allow me to use “ the end toilet only”. This was around 9 am and the only other free toilet was in the disabled loo / shower and was being used. In the end, and in great discomfort, I was permitted to use one loo only, as was a line of other insistent and slightly rebellious people who followed.

A tiered site on 3 levels looking across the Loire to the cathedral. Very convenient for exploring the city EHU distances rather stretched for some pitches. Staff very welcoming and informative. Toilets etc. Rather tired.

Car was emptied of everything we own. Keys, phones, sat navs etc all also stolen. In that one night 6 tents were targeted. French police said it happens frequently at this campsite as thieves use the river to get across and get back! Do not stay here! Campsite staff didn't care at all either. We have had to have our car taken home on a transporter and are left with nothing! Worst camping experience in 30 years of staying in France! Appalling!!
