Nice, but country club?

The campground was nice, with privacy, water and electric (€11 extra). The food in the restaurant was very nice and reasonably priced. The menu was limited, however given the location this is fair due to stocking. The bar was well stocked and local beer was served in bottles. The lager on tap was unidentifiable by the owner when I asked what kind of lager it was. The answer was ‘bog standard lager’. It was fine. The pool area was very nice, especially in the high 30’s that we experienced. There was a large wasp population in the pool, and what looked like a nest in one of the smaller pools. There were plenty of sun beds and you could take drinks down, which was nice. It could do with a clean but overall very nice. There were some oddities though. Firstly, I am not convinced that the shower block was cleaned once while we stayed for two nights. I used the same shower cubicle each time but the same clumps of hair were present. This was concerning as the showers were due to be ‘closed’ for an hour each day for cleaning. Additionally, I was told in the restaurant that I could not have ketchup as it wasn’t used in France, ketchup then miraculously appeared in front of me. Furthermore, there seemed to be a great reluctance to serve us on a hospitality front. The bar closes ‘when I want to go to bed’ (owner) and dinner was served for a total of 1 hour, we asked for many times but were rejected until we picked one that suited the owners. No problems, but would have been better to just say we had to eat at 20:00. There was a not so subtle jibe about the profession of all 4 of our party, which is always nice. Finally, I am confused as to the definition of country club. It was very nice and pleasant for our stay and I would recommend, but it wasn’t a country club. There was no spa as advertised and the whole thing was just a bit odd, I got the impression the owners didn’t want us there. Overall, good but over advertised. Adults only element was very good. Enough to do in the local area so good trip overall. No real issues at all, just think it was oddly advertised and had some strange interactions with the staff.
