Camping Eefting

The village of Rohel is situated between Lemmer, Joure and Heerenveen. The campsite is close to the Tjeukemeer, the largest lake in Friesland. Here you can enjoy peace, space and water.

The Eefting family farm on the north-eastern shore of the Tjeukemeer is located in the vast countryside, where you can camp on the farm.

This is a farm with riding horses where young and old can relax from the often hectic everyday life. At Camping Eefting you can ride under supervision and there are several playgrounds.

Experiences at camping Eefting
Camping Eefting is a campsite for real animal lovers. There are horses on the site that you can brush, stroke and even ride. Your dog is also welcome at this campsite.

The surroundings of the campsite
About 500 metres from Camping Eefting is the Tjeukermeer, where you can moor your boat. There is also a nice beach for swimming and you can eat, drink and beverages in the pavilion. In the Dutch province of Friesland, Tjeukemeer is the largest inland lake. It is located in the south-western corner, in the municipality of De Friese Meren, on the border of the former municipalities of Lemsterland and Skarsterlân.

The westernmost part of Tjeukemeer is bisected by a motorway, the A6. Here, the Follegasloot forms the connection with the Prinses Margrietkanaal. On the north side are the Scharsterrijn and the Zandwater and on the east side the Broeresloot. The lake is about 22 km² in size, but it is not equally deep everywhere. Some parts are even less than one metre deep. The islands Tsjûkepolle, Marchjepolle and Ganzetippe are located in the lake. The villages of Echten, Echtenerbrug, Rohel, Delfstrahuizen, Oosterzee and Oldeouwer are situated around the lake and offer various activities.

The history of Tsjûkemar
The statue of Tsjûke and March stands at Tsjûkemar, near the pumping station in Echten. The origin of the lake is told here. There are two stories. In the first story, two farmers' wives are walking home from milking. After they discovered a fire, the farmer's wife who was carrying the milk refused to put it out. The other called her Tsjûke, a Frisian dog name. The name took on a life of its own and is said to have been used for the lake that was later created. In the second story, two sisters lost themselves in the smoke of a fire. They kept calling out to each other, "Tsjûke" and "March", and their voices remained audible for a long time, forming Tsjûkemar.

There are also pretty water sports towns like Lemmer, Terherne (Chameleon Village) and Langweer. And then there is the atmospheric Balk, on the river the Luts and Sloten. With its 745 inhabitants, Sloten is one of the smallest towns in the Netherlands.

The Frisian balloon festivals
The Frisian Balloon Festival, which has been taking place since 1986, is held every year on the Nutsbaan in Joure. During the event, about 35 balloons take off and various side activities are organised.
