Campsites near Bordeaux and Biarritz - Bathing and adventure holidays on the French Atlantic Coast
Look forward to wide Atlantic beaches, Biscayan surf, sheltered beach lakes, swimming pools and water slides at campsites in Les Landes in south-west France. Because of its light-coloured sand, the coastal strip is called Côte d'Argent, Silver Coast. It stretches from the Gironde estuary at Soulac-sur-Mer to the French Basque Country, Bayonne, Anglet and St. Jean-de-Luz. Take cycling tours through pine forests or hike up Europe's highest shifting sand dune. Connoisseurs visit the wine capital Bordeaux and the winegrowers in the wine region of the same name.
The popular holiday region on the Bay of Biscay offers sun, sea, beach, nature and enjoyment
You'll find plenty of space on the kilometre-long, mostly fine-sand beaches, even in high season. Budding surfers learn to glide over waves on their boards in surfing courses. Kitesurfing, parasailing or simply flying kites are recommended because of the good wind conditions. Not only allergy sufferers enjoy the healthy, salty sea air and the stimulating climate. Take a deep breath and get a good night's sleep!
The sometimes high surf attracts surfers from all over the world
You can swim safely in the swimming pools of the campsites on the French Atlantic coast or in one of the large étangs or lacs. On the lakes near the coast, you can take windsurfing or sailing lessons - with a fresh breeze blowing in from the sea, but with fewer waves. Or you can rent a pedal boat.
In the evening, enjoy the regional cuisine of Gascony
Look forward to family-friendly restaurants in the campsites or along the promenades. How about Bayonne ham, oysters, prawns, fish specialities or fine Gascon lamb or regional beef? What's for dessert? Perhaps a bowl of sugary, historic fruit? Many dedicated farmers in Les Landes are cultivating them again.
Something other than the beach or the pool? Many ideas for excursions when camping in Les Landes
In the hinterland you can explore the largest pine forest in south-western Europe. Here you will find a dense network of mostly pleasantly shaded cycle paths. On the tour, lakes tempt you to picnic and swim. The climate, favoured by the Gulf Stream, provides colourful seas of flowers and lush greenery: you can experience this on a boat trip through the nature reserve of the river Huchet, also called "the Amazon of Europe".
The Pillat dune - the fine-sand summit of the Landes
Another highlight of your family holiday in Les Landes is a special kind of summit climb: through fine, almost white sand, you climb up to the Grand Dune du Pilat, the highest dune in Europe. It is over 100 metres high and almost three kilometres long. From the crest of the dune you can enjoy a unique view of seemingly endless forests, the deep blue Atlantic Ocean and the Arcachon basin.
Lakefront campsites in Les Landes
Enjoy a versatile family holiday in a comfortable mobile home on a 5-star campsite in Les Landes. Many are located on one of the "Grands Lacs", such as Lac Lacanau-Sanguinet, which is close to the sea. Or you can book a mobile home on a campsite at Lac d'Hourtin in the Médoc or at other bathing waters. Many of the often large, luxurious campsites on the Bay of Biscay offer you a lavishly developed pool park - with slides, wellness, or heated outdoor and indoor pools.
